چکیده

The South American tomato pinworm, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), has invaded most Afro-Eurasian countries and is threatening worldwide production. Various strategies have been developed implemented to manage this pest. Here, we present a timely review on the up-to-date development practical implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) programs for crops across different world regions infested by T. absoluta. While insecticide resistance growing concern, biological control via releasing or conserving arthropod natural enemies sex pheromone-based biotechnical are successful practices. Agronomic control-related research an emerging area where soil fertilization and/or irrigation, as well breeding resistant cultivars, potential enhance IPM effectiveness. Grower survey responses in native areas (i.e., America), early-invaded first report between 2006 2012) newly after showed that evolved along with time since invasion. Growers shifted more rapidly from chemical compared those area. In all concerned regions, failure risk following applications high cost associated either methods greatest concerns growers. information gathered may help achieve effective areas. Lastly, researchers expected break bottlenecks some key issues would enable lowering application novel biorational alternative options.

Integrated Pest Management

Research and development on IPM was initiated in Pakistan in the 70’s. However, efforts to implement IPM at the farm level did not bear fruit. A major obstacle has been the mindset at the policy level to increase crop production to feed the ever-increasing population. Pesticides became a major instrument of increasing production leading to ‘pesticide treadmill’ situation. Although IPM-FFS “Veha...
